Welcome

Thank you for stopping by fireserviceleadership.com. I hope you find what you were looking for.

I have spent my entire career fighting fires in predominately light-weight construction. As a fire chief,

I have been involved with some of the largest economic development projects in the state of Texas. Professionally, I am most proud of the fact that in The Colony, we have not had a firefighter leave to go to another fire department in over 10 years. My philosophy is simple:

  • I am a firefighter with fire chief responsibilities.
  • I believe in letting firefighters be firefighters.
  • I believe mentoring is the future of fire service learning and leadership, we must make training and leadership personal.
  • Be prepared mentally, physically, mechanically, and procedurally.
  • It's on fire until we say it's not on fire, it's occupied until we say it's not occupied, and it's not out until we say it's out.
  • Quality over quantity.
  • Be smart and you will be safe. Being safe does not equal being smart.
  • Don't neglect the culture, not even for a day.

If we hope to be viewed as professionals, we better be ready to deal with fire problems on a professional level.

About the picture

This picture was taken by a photographer from the Dallas Morning News. On Mothers Day 1998, the Lake CIties Fire Department responded to a fire at the Cattle Company restaurant located on South

I-35 in Corinth, Texas. The fire which went to five alarms totally destroyed the building. The only thing left standing was the Indian statue out front. The photographer thought is would be fitting to put my head on the body of the Indian so that I would remember the day.
