I have spent my entire career fighting fires in predominately light-weight construction. As a fire chief, I have been involved with some of the largest economic development projects in the state of Texas. Professionally, I am most proud of the fact that in The Colony, we have not had a firefighter leave to go to another fire department in over 10 years. My philosophy is simple: 

• I am a firefighter with fire chief responsibilities. 
• I believe in letting firefighters be firefighters. 
• I believe mentoring is the future of fire service learning and leadership, we must make training and leadership personal. 
• Be prepared mentally, physically, mechanically, and procedurally.
• It's on fire until we say it's not on fire, it's occupied until we say it's not occupied, and it's not out until we say it's out.
• Quality over quantity.
• Be smart and you will be safe. Being safe does not equal being smart.
• Don't neglect the culture, not even for a day.

If we hope to be viewed as professionals, we better be ready to deal with fire problems on a professional level.
